Ditropan XL {Janssen}
oxybutynin, pronounced OX i BUE ti nin
Ditropan XL is a medication that treats the symptoms of overactive bladder, or OAB. Your doctor may have prescribed Ditropan XL for you to treat the symptoms of overactive bladder, like incontinence or frequent and urgent urination. Ditropan XL works by reducing spasms of your bladder and urinary tract.
Ditropan XL may also be used for conditions that are not described in this medication guide.
Ditropan XL is in FDA pregnancy category B. Ditropan XL is not known to harm an unborn baby. You should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, or if you plan to become pregnant before you start to take Ditropan XL. You should not use Ditropan XL without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby, as we do not know if Ditropan XL passes into breast milk.
Ditropan XL may cause you to be more prone to heat stroke. Take care to stay well hydrated when outdoors in the heat or exercising while taking this medication.
You should not use Ditropan XL if you are allergic to oxybutynin.
You may not be a candidate to take Ditropan XL if you have untreated or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma.
If you are unable to urinate, or have a blockage of your urinary tract, stomach or intestines you should not take Ditropan XL.
Tell your doctor if you have an enlarged prostate, liver disease, kidney disease or glaucoma before starting treatment with Ditropan XL.
Let your doctor know if you have myasthenia gravis, ulcerative colitis, slow digestion or a stomach disorder like gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD before taking Ditropan XL.
You should inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following:
Other drugs you take that are not listed may interact with Ditropan XL. You should tell your doctor about all of the medications you use. This includes prescription drugs, vitamins, supplements and herbal products, and over the counter medications. You should not begin taking a new medication without telling your doctor first.
You should take Ditropan XL exactly as your doctor has prescribed you to. Do not use Ditropan XL in larger or smaller amounts, or for shorter or longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label exactly.
You should take Ditropan XL with a full glass (8 oz.) of water.
You can take Ditropan XL with or without food.
Do not break, chew or crush the Ditropan XL tablet. You should swallow the tablet whole.
Take your dose of Ditropan XL at the same time each day.
If you miss a dose of Ditropan XL you should attempt to take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose do not take the missed dose in addition to your regular dose.
Keep Ditropan XL at room temperature, and away from both heat and moisture. Be sure to keep the bottle tightly closed.

Ditropan XL is available as once-a-day controlled-release tablets, in 5 mg, 10 mg or 15 mg dosages. The 5 mg tablet is pale yellow, the 10 mg tablet is pink and the 15 mg tablet is gray. All tablets are imprinted with “5 XL”, “10 XL”, or “15 XL”.
If you suspect that you have overdosed with the Ditropan XL you should seek emergency help immediately.
Ditropan XL contains the active ingredient oxybutynin chloride. Inactive ingredients include cellulose acetate, hypromellose, lactose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, polyethylene oxide, synthetic iron oxides, titanium dioxide, polysorbate 80, sodium chloride, and butylated hydroxytoluene.
