What is Valisone?

Valisone is a topical foam used to treat skin conditions of your scalp, such as redness, irritation, itching and swelling. Valisone is a corticosteroid.

Valisone may also be used for reasons not stated in this medication guide.

Key Facts About Valisone

Valisone is a corticosteroid. You should not use Valisone if you are allergic to steroids, such as prednisone.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Valisone is in FDA pregnancy category C. Valisone is not known to cause problems in your newborn. Consult with your doctor if you become pregnant while taking Valisone. You should not breastfeed while taking Valisone, as we do not yet know if Valisone can pass into breast milk and harm a nursing baby.

Before You Take Valisone

If you are allergic to betamethasone valerate, you should not use Valisone.

You should not use Valisone if you are allergic to steroids, such as prednisone.

If you have a fungal, viral or yeast infection of your skin; or if you have chickenpox, herpes or tuberculosis you should tell your doctor before starting treatment with Valisone.

Valisone Drug Interactions

You should inform your doctor if you are taking any other topical drug treatments, as they may affect your use of Valisone.

Other drugs you take that are not listed may interact with Valisone. You should tell your doctor about all of the medications you use. This includes prescription drugs, vitamins, supplements and herbal products, and over the counter medications. You should not begin taking a new medication without telling your doctor first.

Directions for Taking Valisone

You should take Valisone exactly as directed by your doctor. It is important that you do not take Valisone in larger or smaller amounts, or for longer or shorter than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label and follow any dose changes carefully if your doctor instructs you to change your dose.

While you are using Valisone take care to keep the affected area clean and dry. Apply the prescribed amount of the Valisone cream with clean hands.

Take care not to get Valisone in your eyes, mouth or nose.

You should apply a thin film of this medication to the affected area of your scalp and gently rub it in.

Do not cover or bandage the affected area unless your doctor has advised you to do so.

Valisone needs to be stored at room temperature, and away from light, moisture and heat.

If you miss a dose of Valisone you should attempt to take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Do not apply extra Valisone to make up for a missed dose.

Valisone Side Effects

If you experience any of the following adverse effects you should stop taking Valisone and seek emergency medical help immediately:

• allergic reactions such as breathing difficulties, hives, or swelling of your face, lips, throat or tongue
• blistering with itching, pain, peeling, redness or pus

Valisone Description and Dosing

Valisone is available as 0.1% Scalp Lotion.

You should consult your doctor for specific dosing pertaining to you. Do not attempt to alter or change your dose without your physician’s consent.

If you suspect that you have overdosed with Valisone you should seek emergency help immediately.

Ingredients in Valisone

Valisone is comprised of the main ingredient betamethasone valerate. Other non-medicinal ingredients include carbomer 934P, isopropanol, sodium hydroxide, and purified water.
